Pete & Repeat were rescued along with two
other ducks just before
Hurricane Irene barreled through Connecticut. They were
dropped off on a local pond and had no idea how to
forage for food. They were literally starving when we
rescued them. We could tell by their still-changing
voices that they were about 7-8 weeks old, putting their
hatch date around 7/1/11.
After a few days in our sanctuary with 24/7 access to healthy duck food, they
realized that the food would always be there and they stopped gorging.
Within days they were looking and feeling great!
Repeat is one of the most gorgeous drakes we have
ever seen! His colorations remind everyone here of a
penguin, which has earned him the nick name of "Happy
Feet!"
Twister & Irene were rescued just before
Hurricane Irene barreled through Connecticut. They were
dropped off on a local pond along with Pete and Repeat and had no idea how to
forage for food. They were literally starving when we rescued them; however,
today they are looking and feeling great in their new and loving home!Irene is a real talker who loves to
swim! Twister follows her everywhere and is ultimately devoted to her.
Lilly-putt (L) & Piper-doo (R) November 2011
Lil Bo Peep "Lilly" came to us as a duckling on
5/24/08. She transferred through a few dishonest hands before arriving our care
and even lost a sibling to pneumonia from being set out on a pond too young.
Lilly also had pneumonia and it was a battle keeping her alive for her first few
weeks. But then Piper came to our sanctuary on 6/15/08 and the pair instantly
fell in love and became a loving pair.
For three and a half years they waited at our sanctuary for a
new and loving home and then on 12/1/11, Lilly passed away...
She will forever be a part of our hearts and will always be
cherished. Never will come a November where we don't remember Lilly putting on
her winter weight, nor a spring when we don't recall her regaining her girlish
figure again.
