Peekachoo is a very sweet (and loud!) little girl who got her name
because she was always sneaking peeks at us when she first arrived and was very
nervous.
She was rescued from a pond where too many males were overcoming her. While we
attempted matching her up with Ranger and then Rilo, neither of the two boys
were all that interested in her despite her love for them. Silly boys!
Peekachoo proved quite a Sneakachoo and loved making the occasional bolt for the
Goose Run for a bit of foraging. Funny girl!
Peeks was adopted by one of our dearest friends who has a male duck named Curly
who was in need of a loving mate.
Connie was dropped off on the center pond in Mystic
Village in the spring 2012. Her mate Tokyo (another drop off) disappeared one
night later that year. She was the only Pekin duck on the pond and she was very
friendly. When winter came and visitors no longer showed up regularly to feed
her, she began to lose weight while competing with all the Mallards for her
food.
The village graciously allowed us to come in and capture her in
order to place her in a loving new home with the formerly adopted Tommy Knocker
and his little special needs friend Willow.
All three ducks are living happily together. No more cold nights
for this happy little duck!
Gloria (gander/rear) and Lulu (goose/front) were our temporary
guests for the winter of 2012-13. They arrived on 12/27/12 with plans to return to their
home in Mystic Village in March of
2013.
Gloria is over 25 years old and his caretakers didn't want him to have to endure
a cold winter outdoors, especially in his fragile state. He requires constant
monitoring and a place out of the cold.
He and his young girlfriend Lulu (a Majestic assisted Nevins Farm adoption) fit
in very well at our sanctuary, but sadly... Gloria fell very ill in February and a large, inoperable
mass was discovered in his abdomen during an x-ray. In order to prevent any
suffering, he was gently eased over by the hands of his vet on February 14,
2013. He is sorely missed...
Lulu returned to her home at Mystic Village on March
9th 2013, but she did not return alone. With the help of one of our rescuers, we
found a new friend to accompany her. The new friend was found abandoned and
starving and desperately in need of a new home... and now... he/she has one!
The Grey Goose in Mystic Village is currently running
a poll to come up with a name for Lulu's new friend (we are unsure yet whether
the new friend is male or female).
