Majestic Sanctuary Calendar

2015-2016 Schedule:

Daily responsibilities include:

Replenishing food. Volunteers should be able to lift 50 lb. grain bags into our Duck Truck (which is a fancy name for our wagon!) and then pull it over to the barn.

Refreshing hay in barns and houses.

Barn cleaning. Requires use of pitchfork, shovel and wheelbarrow.

Cleaning water buckets & food dishes.

Cleaning duck houses and goose barns.

Inspecting water lines and adjusting valve flow as needed.

Carefully inspect all pens for safety and function.

Visually checking every duck and goose to be sure everyone is healthy, happy, getting along well with pen mates and behaving normally.

Administering medication is always done under vet guidance. Any and all treatment is recorded in detail in each bird's medical records.

Computer tasks (email response, website updates, bookkeeping, etc.)

Additional Spring/Summer/Fall responsibilities include:

Turning over the entire grounds and seeding new grass.

Mucking out all eleven duck ponds. Hope you don't mind the smell of duck poop because this is a STINKY job!

Pruning trees. Volunteers will need to be comfortable standing on a 6' ladder.

Trimming plant overgrowth in "Abby's Goose Run."

Pruning & weeding knee-high plants around the sanctuary's perimeter. Friends of pruning scissors and leaning over please!

Additional Fall/Winter responsibilities include:

Changing water in heated water buckets and ensuring all are functioning properly.

Clearing snow during snowstorms (even in the middle of the night).

Shoveling snow.

Sanding down icy pens to make them safe.

Additional Special Projects include:

Breaking down and rebuilding our final three pens: The Gardens, The Gate House & Abby's Goose Run: Among other tasks, this includes carrying and lifting lumber/beams into place, removing old wire and cutting/reinstalling new sheets of new (heavy) wire into place. Cement work will also be required (digging, forms, etc). Friends of 6 foot ladders with strong backs please!

Squaring out door and gate frames:  This task requires detailed construction skills.

Returning Onsite Volunteers

Please review the above schedule and then Email us with the date and time you would like to come join us again. Please remember to include your full name and phone number in the email. We will confirm your appointment within 24 hours of receiving your email.

Weather permitting, onsite volunteer opportunities usually take place on Saturdays between 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and on Sundays 10:00 – 4:00 p.m.

We ask that our Onsite Volunteers show up for at least 4 hours of service on any given day. For consistency, our onsite Volunteers need to commit to volunteering on a consistent basis at least four times a year.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you again!

Food & Drink:

We provide plenty of lemonade and water to our volunteers to ensure everyone is fully hydrated.

Volunteers will need to bring their own lunch and/or snacks.

Occasionally, when large tasks are on the agenda, we will advise our volunteers ahead of time that dinner will be provided at the END of the workday. Dinner will ONLY be provided to those volunteers who show up on time at the start of the day and finish up with the rest of us at the end of the day. Late shows or early departures will not be rewarded with this complimentary meal. Volunteers must participate in the ENTIRE workday in order to qualify.

We will either order pizza & grinders or we will drive you into town and treat you to an all you can eat dinner that has never gone wrong!
