Today we brought Dutch to see Dr. McGee to get his
toenails trimmed. Do you see the scale reading? He
weighs 16.3 pounds!
Yesterday we
helped the Garey family rescue a goose who was
abandoned on a pond. She was underweight and being
picked on by other birds on the pond.
Today we took
newly rescued Rosie to the vet for a full check-up.
Sadly, she is between 3-4 pounds underweight.
She has an
inflammed toe pad from walking on asphalt and rocky
shores. Fortunately, we rescued her before this had
the chance to progress into bumblefoot. Soft grounds
and access to swimming water will remedy this
situation over the course of the next few months.
Dr. McGee takes an
x-ray to make sure Rosie is healthy internally and
has not ingested any metal during her abandonment.
Terrible news... Rosie has ingested some wire. A
blood test is needed to see if she has any lead or
zinc poisoning. Results will take a few days.
Dr. McGee draws
the blood...
Dr. McGee is able
to determine her age by her pointed tail feather.
Rosie is a young hen, less than a year old.
We sure enjoyed
our stay with the Garey family and we wish them and
all of their new family members happiness together!
We fly home first thing tomorrow morning.
