Majestic Diary

September 15, 2008

Would you look at this poor guy... Dutch arrived at our sanctuary today. Animal Control brought him to us. His upper bill has been purposefully cut off, his feathers are destroyed and he is infested with lice.

He was probably kept in a cage his whole life and then someone saw him being sold in market and bought him to keep him from being eaten (or tortured if he was being used for live plucking... don't even get me going on that one). Whoever bought him "set him free" on a pond. Trouble is Dutch spent his whole life in a cage, and once in the wild, he was clueless about what to do, how to forage and find food and how to keep away from predators.

He is just so beautiful. Most folks don't see it and think he is ugly and wave their hands at him, but if you get down to his level and look into his blue eyes, there is a wounded soul in there. I can see it so clearly.

I'm going to take care of this boy.

Dutch was very pleased to meet his neighbor Princess!

Princess, on the other hand, was not so pleased with meeting Dutch...
