Majestic Diary

February 11, 2009

I remember the day Dutch first came to our sanctuary... his feathers were a miss, frayed and ruined... and he was so terrified of people. Sometimes transformations are so intense that I can hardly believe I'm looking at the same bird. Today Dutch is gorgeous and so incredibly friendly. He definitely imprinted on humans when he was a duckling and has rediscovered this bond with me. I rub him all over his belly and back and head and neck and he follows me everywhere. I just love this guy! I'm always kissing his soft, feathery head and calling him by name so that he fluffs up his crown for me. Not everyone has a big Muscovy duck in love with them, but I do and I just love him too. He's my boy!

I took this photo today too... That's Deirdre, Vida, Jeffrey, Matthew and Jelina (working back to front). What a beautiful flock of ducks!
