Go to Ducks
and Geese Adopted Page 62|
Daisy-Siete is a human-imprinted Muscovy duck who was spoiled wonderfully by her first family, but... they could no longer keep her and surrendered her to our sanctuary. Her original name was Daisy, but since she's our 17th Muscovy rescue, we added a little something to the end of her name to distinguish her from the other Daisy ducks who have come through our sanctuary over the years: "Siete."
Daisy-Siete or "Seventeen" (get it?!) rec'd lots and lots of attention during her stay at our sanctuary and she was a favorite volunteer always "helping" out. If it weren't for her, we're not sure how the aqua-duckt would have ever worked properly.
We imagine she is fiddling with the same knobs and valves up in heaven these days, helping God get his work done, taking care of all of us...
Tyme was a Toulouse goose. She was found starving when she was rescued and brought to our sanctuary. She immediately fell in love with Tock and the two geese made a beautiful pair. Sadly, within a year of her arrival, Tyme fell ill. We rushed her to our vet to find an inlaid egg had broken inside of her. Diagnosed with peritonitis with no viable medical options, we helped her cross over to the other side.
Tyme was a very sweet and shy girl who was just learning to come over to us for mealy worm treats and... she was just teaching our very shy Tock, that not all people are bad and maybe... just maybe he might trust us just a little. And Tock was learning it too... up until we had to take Tyme away...
Lolly (Blue Swede duck) and Sweetie-Sunny (Pekin) arrived at our sanctuary when they were 6 years old, in June of 2016. Their original family moved and couldn't bring their ducks with them, so we welcomed the two girls here and matched them up with Shorty. Lolly was a very boisterous girl who was very protective of her sister Sweetie-Sunny. Sweetie-Sunny was a chubby-cheeked sweetheart who's favorite pasttime was napping (where are her feet?!). Both girls were very chatty and came pretty close to us to share their opinions.
When Lolly succumbed to liver cancer in August of 2020, our vet helped ease her over ot the other side. Only two weeks later we lost Sweetie-Sunny to bone cancer.
Dolly was found abandoned on a pond. When she first arrived she was emaciated and her feathers had lost their waterproof effectiveness. Within a few weeks of joining our flock of rescues, Dolly blossomed into her true beautiful self. She was always a little shy, but comes up pretty close for her treats.
Dolly was a special needs duck with weak legs that sprained easily, so she couldn''t be penned with other boys or bossy ducks and she needed a slope-banked pond in her pen, so she wouldn't have to jump in and out. She occasionally needed to spend a week in the barn, in her own space to recover quietly. Since we were not able to find a home who could handle her special needs, we decided to retire her here at our sanctuary.
Dolly spent many years with us before we had to let her go when she was 12 years old after being diagnosed with peritonitis.
Mercury is a beautiful Muscovy/Pekin mix who was rescued on a pond. He was a quick and easy fit into our bachelor pad. Although he is a mule and can never have babies, we insisted he have a girlfriend in his new home. This guy loves to fly around in his pen and perch on duck houses and his picnic table, so we were thrilled when his new family showed us photos of their giant aviary pen AND... their female Scovy Gina! Upon being introduced, the pair fell immediately in LOVE! Don't you just love it when that happens?!
(Special thanks to Mercury's new momma for the photo of them together!)
Piper (right) was abandoned on a
pond as a duckling and ended up cornered in a drainage
pipe by predatory birds before being rescued. We estimated his hatch date as
5/9/08. We introduced him to Lilly duckling (left) and they lived here for many years, basqued in each other's love.
Piper was always a little bit shy, but he learned
to trust what he knew (us!) and we rewarded him with lots of healthy
treats and TLC. He loves nightcrawlers, lettuce and watermelon!
Sadly, Lilly succumbed to egg-laying issues in her adulthood, so we paired Piper (left) off with his new girlfriend Daisy Duke (right).
In his last year, Piper lost the last of his vision to cataracts in both eyes. Still, he thrived, following Daisy Duke everywhere. In the end, he fell ill with liver cancer and we had to let him go in August of 2020, when he was 12 years old.
One of our most beloved sanctuary photos of Piper duckling... with his little teardrop... "Don't abandon your pet ducks." --Piper
Name: Natoch
Nickname: Tock
Favorite Song: Fly Like an Eagle (especially that "tick-tock" bit)
Favorite Place: Relaxing on a pond with a goosey girl of my own
Favorite Food: Mealy worms, lettuce and watermelon
Favorite Drink: Good, clear pond water (inside my safe pen, of course)
Favorite Pastime: Slow walks around the pen with a nice goosey girl...
Pet Peeves: Sorrow and loneliness...
Likes: I like girl geese. Boy ducks are okay too, but only when spring fever isn't going on. I find girl ducks attractive sometimes, so it may not be the best idea to keep me penned with them.
Special Qualities: I'm a shy and gentle soul. I'd rather be in the company of a nice girl goose than a human, but if she comes close to you, I'll follow her over as well--but not too close. My momma here says that I'm not quite as shy when I'm paired with a braver girl. She says that's an ideal match for me.
My Story: My momma here found me starving among a flock of Canada geese in Norwich CT in August of 2018. Someone bought me on a whim earlier that spring and then dumped me when I grew too big for them. That was mean of them. I didn't do anything wrong--I swear. I try to mind my own business and not ask for anything... although, love would be nice. After arriving here at Majestic, I was paired with a nice Toulouse girl named Tyme. I grew to really love her a lot, but then she fell very ill with peritonitis (which I guess is when an inlaid egg broke inside of her). The vets couldn't help her, so we had to say goodbye. It was terrible and I've been so lonely without her ever since.
Things You Should Know About Me: I'm a very healthy and strong and I have really nice feathers too. If I weren't so humble, I would say I'm very handsome. Any goosey girl would be happy to love me, I'm sure. And I would treat them very nicely too. I was once penned with a big Chinese gander and his girlfriend. He was old and had a hard time seeing, so I liked to sneak over and flirt with his girlfriend. I admit, it wasn't very nice of me, but I never hurt anyone. I just decided I liked being in charge. It made me feel good inside. I think I might be a natural born leader. I'm not so sure I should be penned with ducks, by the way. I get protective of girl ducks and don't like it when I see boy ducks trying their moves on them. And sometimes I get confused by a flirty girl duck, which isn't safe for her... you know... because I'm a giant gander.
Happily Ever After: The good news is, Tock found a new home with a beautiful Pomeranian goose named Gloria and it was love at first sight! Tock has found his happily ever after with lots of ducks around too!
LeeLoo came to
us from another shelter on August 2, 2013 along with her friend Waverly (who sadly passed away afterwards of cancer). They were the result of an
irresponsible hatching project. Before leaving this world in the Fall of 2020 she was known for making lots of little happy
ducky noises! Her little mutterings
reminded us of the character from the movie "The 5th Element" and earned
her the name LeeLoo.
