Ducks and Geese Adopted

Here are photos of the ducks and geese that we have placed in permanent homes so far. We love to hear from their new families. If you have updated photos of a duck or goose you have adopted from us, or a story to share about them, please email us, so we can update this page for you.

Name:  Unicorn

Nickname:  Uni (and sometimes: "Bugsy")

Favorite Song:  The Last Unicorn (obvioiusly...)

Favorite Place:  Sleeping in the sunshine

Favorite Food:  Mealy worms and earthworms

Favorite Drink:  Anything clean and safe within my reach

Favorite Pastime:  Quacking cutely and doing anything that makes humans fawn over my tiny nature.

Pet Peeves: Being outside of my pen. Never, never, never. No way. I'm not going out there. Never let me out--no matter what. Period.

Likes:  I've only had male roomies since my days in the wild. I'd really like to have a girlfriend now that I'm safe. I think I'd make a very good hubby.

Special Qualities:  I'm part Call duck (a bantam breed), so I'm teeny, weeny, tiny and cute! I'm also shy, but I get more and more brave around people I know, especially when they come with goodies and fawn over me. Then, sometimes... on rare occasion... I might even allow a bit of hugging and snuggling, but you can never tell anyone--and you can't do it in front of my wife. I don't want her getting jealous of our humans.

My Story: I was found in July of 2018 on a pond where I began hanging around with a flock of wild Mallard ducks. Those were my partying days, so I really can't remember how long I hung out with them. Wild ducks are a bad influence, I know. All that flying around... never settling down... and they're very loud. Someone used to stop by and check on me and feed me. She said I was a Unicorn among Mallards. I liked the sound of that, so she and I became friends. She's the one who saved me and brought me to Majestic. I've since quieted down into this lifestyle of clean living and really want a family and wife of my own, who I can retire with.

Things You Should Know About Me:  I may be small, but I will not be bossed around. This is why my momma here calls me "Bugsy." She says I'm secretly the leader of the flock. Perhaps... perhaps... but it probably isn't safe to put me with other bigger boys who could hurt me. I'm very tiny and precious, you know. And although I'm healthy, I am blind in one eye. Like I said, I lived a wild life before being rescued. Don't worry, I get around fine. Just be careful to talk to me before coming up on my blind side, so you don't spook me, okay?

Special Considerations: So basically, you need to protect me very carefully because I'm so itty-bitty tiny and cute. I could get spooked and accidentally fly away and get lost if you're  careless around my pen's door, or take me outside of my pen at all. Please don't do any of those things! Yipes!

Happily Ever After:

Uni was adopted into a home with a beautiful girl Call duck named Mo!

Name:  Boomer

Favorite Song:  A version of "I Dream of Jeannie" where you sing, "Boomer-boom-boom-boom-boom-boom--boomer--ba-boom-boom-BOOM!"

Favorite Place:  Anywhere there might be ladies to admire! I love quacking at the ladies!

Favorite Food:  Nightcrawlers and mealy worms

Favorite Drink:  Not picky as long as it's clean and as long as it's safe.

Favorite Pastime:  Pacing along the fenceline and looking at all the beautiful ladies on the other side. Well, at least until I have a lady of my own... <sigh>...

Pet Peeves: Not having a lady to call my own. I'm always hanging out in the bachelor pad with other dudes. They all get adopted one-by-one and meet these great gals, but me... I'm still here... hanging out with guys. Please adopt me and give me a lady (or two!) to love...

Likes:  Ladies. Have I not made this clear?

Special Qualities:  I'm a little spitfire with lots of energy! I like to run around and swim, and splash and admire ladies (don't forget that!). I like doing stuff. I'm a busy guy! I am shy though, so please don't try to get too close (especially if you don't have treats to offer in trade) and please do not pick me up. I do not like that at all, thank you very much.

My Story: I arrived at Majestic in October of 2018 after being rescued from a pond where I was abandoned. What happened before that? I really don't like to talk about it, as I'm sure you can imagine. Can we just focus on a future together and leave all that bad stuff behind? Awesome.

Things You Should Know About Me:  I'm a very healthy boy and an interesting mix of breeds too. First, I have this gorgeous pom-pom crest on top of my head. You gotta love that. Although I'm quite clearly part Khaki Campbell, when I go through my eclipse molt every fall, you'll also see some light stripes appear on my face that imply my super-secret Saxony heritage. In any case, I'm quite striking! Also, I prefer not to be penned with other boys if there are not enough ladies to go around. If I'm going to have a male roomie, then I think we should have at least 3-4 girls to share between us. Okay?

Special Considerations:  While I can't fly far, I can get myself pretty high off the ground, especially if I get excited or spooked! This means, you can't take me outside of my pen (which absolutely most have a ceiling). I wouldn't want to fly away and get lost. No, no, no!

Happily Ever After:

Boomer was adopted into a home where he fell in love with TWO girl ducks named Ruth and Mabel! And Mercury lives there too!

Maggie was a two day-old duckling, abandoned in a laundry basket on top of an outdoor ice machine in the cold month of March. It's a miracle she survived until someone found and saved her--and then she came to us!

Jinx was an owner surrender. Neighbors complained about her loud quacking, which is completely normal for female ducks--we certainly didn't notice anything unusual about her!

Maggie and Jinx stayed with us long enough to fully mature before joining their new ducky family with new Blue Swedish friends Gronk and Juju!

Itty Bitty Diamond is a Pastel Call duck who appeared in someone's yard. After attempts to find an owner he may have flew away and escaped from, we placed him directly into a foster-to-adopt home (after clipping his wings, of course!).

Cedar (Chocolate Muscovy male) was found foraging along the shores of a local pond in search of food. When he arrived at our sanctuary, his eyes were weary and half closed from malnutrition and hunger. Within days of being on a quality Mazuri diet his eyes opened up wide and he began interacting with us and eating out of our hands!

Princess Sparkles came to us as an owner surrender. Her mate had passed away 5 years prior and she'd been all alone for so long, her family thought she might want to meet Cedar and go with him to a new home.

The pair stayed with us for a couple weeks before being transported to their new loving home in North Carolina!

When Sheena's original flockmates were over-mating her, an employee at TSC told her family to purchase Blue-Kote and spray it on her feathers. They were told it tastes bitter and would deter the other ducks from grabbing ahold of her feathers. This is NOT TRUE and it did not work at all.

If you have questions about your duck's behavior, health or diet, please take them to a qualified veterinarian--not a random store employee who likely has no clue what they are talking about and who is just trying to sell more of their products.

Blue-Kote is a topical antifungal treatment for horses with ringworm--it does NOT belong on your duck and it will NOT deter overmating. What it can do, is stop your duck from preening their own feathers because they taste so bad. The label on this product also warns against internal use/ingestion, which is exactly what happens when ducks preen this product off of their skin and feathers.

Sheena and her siblings were all raised on TSC Dumor feed. This is a low-quality feed not intended for ultimate health and longevity, which means it's not ideal for pets--and if you knew what many TSC stores do with their injured, disabled & leftover ducklings, you'd know they have no interest at all in the overall health of your pet.

During a baseline x-ray to check the extent of damage caused by malnutrition, we discovered that she had come to us with a staple in her gizzard. The staple was successfully removed by Kensington Bird & Animal Hospital and Sheena made a full recovery!

Sadly, we lost Sheena to anaphylactic shock from a bee sting. The bee appeared to ahve crawled into her feathers for warmth while Sheena was sleeping and accidentally became trapped. We discovered Sheena soon after th incident, but she passed away within minutes while cradled in Kim's arms. We did not have time to save her.

Pebbles (Rouen) & Moonstone (Cayuga) were owner surrenders who were purchased in March of 2021. It's not uncommon for impulse duckling shopping to not work out. These girls came to us quite shy, but soon learned to follow us around for all kinds of treats (they love blueberries from our sanctuary bushes!). These beautiful girls went to their forever home with the same family who adopted Boomer and Mercury from us! They made themselves at home right away and are doing great!

Merlot and Shiraz were found on a pond in NJ. We quickly organized a rescue team and they were safely removed the following day. We arranged for a foster home in PA for the friendly duo and then found a new home for them in Illinois. A road trip chain is on the calendar to drive them to their adopting family in October!

When one of our beloved friends, Lew Maruzo, fell terminally ill, we took custody of his flock of Domestic Mallards and he visited them here for a couple of years until he passed away.

Sadly, little Lewy passed away of old age in August 2018, almost a year to the day after his Poppa Mallard flew to heaven in 2017. We had to let go of his first lady, fiesty Queen Phoebe in light of age-related illness in 2021 at the ripe old age of 19 years.

We had to let go of Pauly in September of 2020. Peter & Peabody are still here with us at 19 years and ticking!
