On
May 6, 2002 a little Ancona hen hatched and was
purchased by a breeder.
On
May 25, 2003 that breeder got bored with his flock
and that young Ancona duck came to our new
sanctuary.
Jezebel was our rescued Silver Appleyard duck who passed away last year.
Oddly, in the past
week, her name and image have come up unexpectedly.
The signs that Jezebel's spirit was close:
1)
I received an email from the vet reminding me to
bring Jezebel in for her annual check up.
2)
I was riding my bike along a wooded trail. A mallard
hen took off beside me and flew ahead of me down the
trail. This is a very specific image that I
associated with Jezebel's crossing to the other side
last year. I have only ever told my friend Jenn
about this exact image and won't go into it any
further here. Suffice it to say it was spot-on accurate,
down to it actually happening during a bike ride.
3)
I called Benny "Elijah" by accident (Elijah was the
name of Jezebel's Pekin boyfriend, who passed before her).
I have never done this before.
4)
A few days later I called Deirdre "Jezebel" by
accident while she was walking up to the barn at the
end of the day. Since Deirdre is a white Pekin duck
and Jezebel was a mottled Silver Appleyard duck, it
stopped me in my tracks when I said it--they are
nothing alike. I suddenly became aware of the
multiple signs and I thought of Jezebel and said:
"I know you're close," And then I looked at
Deirdre and said, "You better not be leaving me."
I felt Jezebel's spirit close to the sanctuary, but
I misunderstood the signs. It wasn't Deirdre she had
come to help cross over...
Today, on
April 14, 2010 at 10:00 p.m. our beautiful Ancona hen
Leah-Evita "Vida" passed
away suddenly and without warning.
