After surviving two
snow storms Saturday and Sunday (each
dropping 6 inches on us), we got hit HARD by
today’s blizzard. We went to bed last night
and set the alarm to go off every hour. At 4
a.m. this morning it was time to go out and
start clearing the aviary nets and shoveling
paths to give the ducks and geese mobility
in their pens.
The snow was REALLY
heavy—like shoveling bricks… in the DARK! We
came in for a 2 hour rest at 8 a.m. and then
went back out again. We worked so hard I
nearly lost my stomach and had to come in
and rest from exhaustion. Snow was still
pounding down. We went back out and shoveled
more… and then more… and then started
crying… Finally, the storm began to wane
off.
We gave up shoveling at
4 p.m. When every duck and goose could get
safely from shelter to water buckets and
food dishes and every gate and door could
swing open and closed.
There is still over 2
feet of snow left on the quarantine pen and
on Louisville that has to be removed, but we
don’t have the strength to do it. We know
Louisville can handle it, but I know the
quarantine pen can't and might be doomed
(there are NO ducks in there).
