Majestic Diary

Majestic Diary

July 30, 2013

Jodie-dee and Young Jeffrey get Adequan shots every week for their worsening arthritis. Jodie has lost weight (she does that in summer) and I'm always so worried about her. She and Nelly-nell have been here for three years, but they appear to be 6, 7 or 8 years old. And as we know, Y. Jeffrey is 11!

I've been recently worried about Nelly-nell too. About a week ago I noticed her floating on the pond all alone while the others were sleeping on shore. It was strange that she wasn't with them, and she was just so still on the water, over in the corner. I went in and checked on her and she seemed okay, but her eyes were a little squinty.

I've been watching her closely ever since and yesterday her legs gave out right from under her. She used her wings to move herself along and then rested for a moment and stood up and walked away. She's also lost some weight, but that's common for summer--even so, she lost a little too much.

So today I brought her to the vet this morning. Our vet checked her heart and lungs (which were fine), drew blood for a comprehensive blood panel and then did an x-ray.

This doesn't feel good to me. I'm very worried, but at least glad she gets to come home again for today.

Jodie-dee going under the water spout (they all love doing this).
